Description
After restart of ReactOS screen remains black all the time, during the BIOS start and any other OS
all other systems are working but not showing anything on the screen, screen remains black.
(got into this 2 times)
How get into this: An installed ReactOS trunk version, resolution was changed from default 800x600 to 1200x800 x256 colors. An hour or two system was left running. Screen was normally working, showing, and after shut down selected on start menu, at shutdown screen ("Now you can turn off") the power button was pressed.
And after that screen goes black and remains so for much things I tried. (reanimation procedure see further)
After I get screen running, I restarted ReactOS and changed the resolution back to 800x600x16bit
After shutdown screen again goes black.
Since no other OS (Linux flavours, Windows flavours, BSDs) demonstrated such behavior I count this as ReactOS Bug. A fat and nasty one.
Reanimation procedure: The steps helped me:
Turn off, unplug power cord, take out notebook battery,
Press and keep pressed the power button nearly 10-20 seconds,
plug the second monitor into the notebook,
and start with pressing the power button.
Or: plug the second monitor just during BIOS start (probably BIOS POST)
After that screen is working.
I tried this two times. After first, the screen (GRUB2) is started with 1200x800 resolution
General thoughts: Seems ReactOS leaves video card in such a state is doesn't work at all or doesn't send video signals. Cleaning some unknown setting and setting the second monitor somehow changes this stable balance on not-working state of video card into working
Not sure which ROS module is guilty for such behavior. Maybe monitor resolution setting or, shutdown procedure
