    Description

I ran into huge problems trying to install Reactos on a P5I430VX Explorer (Bios 3.61 1999).
I remember similar issues trying to boot from USB in Virtualbox using Plop (Todo: recheck in detail!).

This board as no CDrom support so I used a 2nd CF on the secondary channel with bootcd written to it with rufus. It starts via syslinux and does finishes 1st stage successful!

Plop installed into mbr to check that at least the drive does boot.
Partition 1 for Reactos/FreeDOS, partition 2 for XP, startsector=2048 on a CF card.

      These are the results:

      • Boot FreeDOS from Fat16: Works!
      • Boot FreeDOS from Fat32: <blinking cursor>
      • Boot ReactOS from Fat32: <blinking cursor>
      • Boot ReactOS from Btrfs: "Press any key to restart"
      • Boot XP from Ntfs: Works!

As I suspected the Bios, I then installed an add-on PCI IDE card with working Option-Rom. So I get the 3 sockets of onboard primary, secondary and add-on to try. Then it got obvious:

      • primary & secondary: Option-Rom not displayed!
      • secondary & add-on: Option-Rom displays and detects, plop loads but boot fails with "DISK BOOT FAILURE..."
      • primary & add-on: Option-Rom displays and detects, but it boots primary nontheless

So I only use add-on card and Freeloader loads, but starting fails with "Opening hive file failed"
