Regression: CDFS_NEW assertions and exceptions

    Description

      VBox 4.3.40 + AC97 sound
      I booted ros, had no sound (as it sometimes happens since a long time)

      I went into device manager and "updated the driver automatically" for "Avance AC97 audio".

      I get assertions and exceptions from cdfs_new then.
      This is new and did not happen for me months ago.
      It is also reproducible.
