ROS 0.4.9 RC32 and many older versions (probably 0.4.4 and older) on VirtualBox 5.1.x on Win7/Win10 64 bit host.
Description
This does not affect a vanilla ROS directly after installation. Snapshots created in this moment are fine it is possible to revert to them and start them up without problems.
However, after installing VBox guest additions (with 3D acceleration on) and AC97 drivers, any snapshots created afterwards will cause a failure to start on first attempt:
- ROS seems to boot fine and starts showing the desktip
- Either a BSOD appears (see below) OR: A typical red pattern appears at the top of the desktop. After this, ROS is dead and does not react any more.
- The only solution is to do a "Reset" in VirtualBox.
- After this (and after correcting the file system in ROS 0.4.9) ROS starts up fine.
This is 100% reproducible for me and exists as far as I can remember, since ROS 0.4.4 at least.
In order to reproduce follow the steps in my wiki tutorial for installation of ROS until the end of chapter 1.2.
I don't know if this is in any way related to CORE-12036.
