It tried that game many times during the last years already in ros and never had sound.
Today, I double-checked on XPSP3, and the game does play sound there ingame, when the harpune is fired.
On ros, there is total silence, although AC97 was installed, and properly played the ros start sound, and also sysaudio did not log any "suck".
