system tray disappears after some time

The system tray seems to disappear after some time, though i didn't find the
exact moment when, I'll try to find some sequence on how to reproduce, however,
i've had it so often i think it can be easily reproduced by playing around a
little. When choosing to disable/enable the clock in the taskbar preferences the
tray comes back (but without the sound mixer icon)
