mesa: games requiring 256 (8bpp) colour assert at startup

Assertion failed in aoe

Revision 48484.

After installation of the AOE, I've set the desktop to the 640 480 resolution.
After launching the game (after accepting the agreement), the screen goes black, and soon the window popped up.
