USB mass storage device inaccessible

After a successful install of ROS on aforementioned hardware, I tried to use my 8GB Cruzer USB flash storage device and it seems like ROS gets stuck reading the descriptor. If I leave it plugged in and restart the PC, it seems it even gets ROS stuck during start-up until it is removed.

If I plug the device in with ROS at the desktop and remove it, it crashes.

Attached is the log from start-up to me plugging the device into the USB port, and a separate log with the output from pulling the drive while at the desktop. It ROS installed appropriate drivers for the controller, too.

Consequently the storage device is inaccessible.
