Alternate Configuration doesn't come back

When you go to the properties for Internet Protocol and change the option to Use the following IP address: the Alternate Configuration disappears as expected. But when you change the option back to Obtain the IP address automatically it doesn't come back unless you close the properties box and reopen it again while the option is set on Obtain the IP address automatically.
