Significant slowdown of test runs since around r66109

    Description

      Somewhere around r66109, the time for a "normal" test run went up from around 30 minutes to 37 minutes. We're now at about 40 minutes, with outliers such as r66242 spiking at a whopping 47 minutes.
      This slowdown needs to be investigated and fixed.
