Installation of Intel 915GM Express Chipset Video Driver fails

I am trying to install the "Intel 915GM Express Chipset Video Driver" on a real old Compaq 8510p notebook. More precisely it is the: "Intel NC4200/TC4200 Video Driver 1.00 REV:  D" from 2008, (SoftPaq NUMBER:  SP38240)

This is a SoftPaq installer, which first deflates itself to a c:\swsetup\sp38240 directory (which works) and then starts the actual setup from there (which fails).

The result is the same for ROS 0.4.8 as already for ROS 0.4.2 (oldest tested version): A blue fullscreen-window opens and afterwards the system runs on 100% load forever and can only be killed with the task manager (given it was opened beforehand). The actuall installation dialog never comes up.

I have attached some debug.log files of the installation attempt with ROS 0.4.8 RC25 with different compatibility modes enabled (XPSP2 and Win2000, as the driver claims to support both WinXP and Win2000). The compatibility mode didn't make a difference though.
