    • ROS 0.4.10 RC22 in VBox 5.1.34, just VBox Additions and AC97 sound driver installed

    Description

For years now ROS has problems recovering from snapshots taken in VirtualBox, at least if VBox Additions and AC97 sound driver are installed. As a result it is usually necessary to reset the machine as the first attempt to boot ROS after switching to a snapshot will result in a BSOD.

In ROS 0.4.9 the OS would check the harddisk and do (minor?) corrections. ROS 0.4.10 RC22 however does not seem to attempt a correction and - probably as a result of this - the file system remains corrupted. For example when looking at C:\ I see each folder or file 16 times! (See screenshot.) A folder I created before creating the VBox snapshot is gone, however. Resetting and re-starting ROS a second time (again without FS repair) results in the same issues.

A debug.log showing my attempt to open the previously existing folder and the c:\ drive is attached.

P.S. The old issue CORE-6184 describes similar problems.
P.P.S. Sometimes ROS manages to restore the snapshot in the first attempt, in which case everything is fine - my folder is still there and there are no folder duplicates in C:\.
