ATI Radeon 2600 graphics driver (manually installed) causes ROS to freeze

This is a follow-up of CORE-14479, where I tried to install a ATI Radeon 2600 graphics driver for WinXP on my test HP Compaq 8510p. Since the setups failed I checked if I could force a manuel install.

In the device manage I chose the "VGA compatible graphics card", let it update the driver and manually chose the driver location to be c:\swsetup\SP51066\Driver\XP_INF, which is the default location where then driver is unpacked.
Indeed the device manager would detect the ATI Radeon 2600 and install the driver. So far nothing changed.

On next reboot, after loading all drivers ReactOS shows the desktop (in correct resolution as a result of the driver!), ...

... but after a split of a second a BSOD appears. Same when the reboot is done in screen debug mode. I created a video of the latter, unfortunately it is too large to attach here. So for now just a screenshot of the final backtrace:
